The Diocese of Paterson includes the three counties of Passaic, Morris, and Sussex in northern New Jersey, under the leadership of Bishop Arthur Joseph Serratelli .
The diocese is blessed with urban, suburban, and rural parishes.  Our parishes, schools, agencies, hospitals, and ministries help to serve the 425,000 Catholics who live in the diocese.

the 10th Anniversary of Bishop Serratelli as Bishop of the Paterson Diocese: Highlights of Bishop's work and accomplishments during the last ten years in the Diocese.

The Family In Crisis - The Church Responds
Diminishing or obscuring Jesus’ teaching on the beauty of marriage and simply adjusting the Church’s pastoral practices to current trends will not help the common good. At a time when culture no longer supports or encourages family life, as church, we need to strengthen and promote good family life. We need to support Catholics who struggle and, with great personal sacrifice, succeed in living as Jesus teaches. Ultimately, a healthy society depends on stable, loving and generous families.

‘Adopting A Christian’
To help the more than 100,000 Christians who have been driven from their homes, AsiaNews, a Catholic news outlet that’s part of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions, launched an “Adopt a Christian” campaign. Donations are being sent to bishops from the Catholic and Eastern churches there who are helping their displaced and refugee parishioners.  Father Bernardo Cervellera, the head of AsiaNews, said just $6 can help feed one person a day, while $200 will last for one month.
Bishop’s Annual Appeal helps the most needy of the diocese in many ways
Under the theme, “Be an Ambassador for Christ,” the 2014 Bishop’s Annual Appeal is a way parishioners in churches of the Paterson Diocese can help those in need. Catholic Charities, which also includes Straight and Narrow and Department for Persons with Disabilities, is a recipient of the Appeal pledges.

Former Wall St. exec examines leadership style of pope
MADISON At first glance, these four separate everyday images may not seem to have much in common: a person doing laundry, monastery bells and a pair of dusty shoes and a colorful jacket (unless they are in the laundry). But together, these simple images paint a powerful picture of the strong, yet humble leadership style of Pope Francis.

Shrine at Sparta church recognizes those who risked their lives to save Jews
SPARTA An unusual silver-colored metal plaque hangs on a tan brick wall that encloses a small outdoor prayer garden to one side of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church here. This small memorial honors not the usual figures of the Catholic faith but instead three heroes of the Holocaust, who helped save Jews from Nazi persecution at great risk to themselves.

A Statement by the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey on Marriage as a Union of One Man and One Woman
Marriage as a union of man and woman existed long before any nation, religion, or law was established. Marriage which unites mothers and fathers in the work of childrearing is the foundation of the family and the family is the basic unit of society.
