St. Cecilia School makes a conscious and deliberate effort to develop a faith community within the school. The school community places high priority on frequent prayer and liturgical experiences. Religious truths and values are integrated across the curriculum and are aligned with both our school philosophy and mission. Elements of Community, Message, Service and Worship are integral components of the lesson planning and instruction. The school community provides a doctrinally sound, balanced, sequential, developmentally appropriate, and integrated presentation of the essential content of the Christian message.

Our school while “Proclaiming Christ’s Message in a Caring Environment” infuses didactic values and empathetic identification. The mission of St. Cecilia School is to prepare the students spiritually, morally and academically, to achieve goals necessary to influence the world in a Christian manner. Our vision is to create a safe, happy environment where our children learn to love and love to learn.

Led by the administration and faculty and partnered with our parents, the St Cecilia community is dedicated to the acquisition of knowledge and excellence in education. The academic curriculum is set to meet the needs of every child in an environment that fosters learning as well as character development based on solid moral values. Since our inception in September 1958, we have been a hallmark for preserving the past, revealing the present and creating the future. Each student is encouraged to use his/her gifts as God intended. We proclaim Gospel values in academics, athletics, and co-curricular activities and promote self-discipline, patriotism and self-esteem. Our school incorporates peace and environmental justice into our educational programs. Faculty and students have the ability and opportunity to share with each other the love of God and love for our neighbors.

In 2006 we were awarded Best Practice for our Third Grade Program, “Children Enriched by Wisdom”. For three consecutive years (2008; 2009; 2010) we were recognized as the Best Private School in Morris County by the Daily Record. Our Principal was nominated for Principal of the Year in 2009. Our former pastor was also nominated as Pastor of the Year by the NCEA in 2010. The Home and School Association with the help of our Development Committee won the Marketing Grant given by the Diocese of Paterson for the 2009-2010 school year. In 2011 three of our Fifth Grade Students won first, second and third place in a poetry contest sponsored by the Catholic Daughters of America. The first place winner’s poem has been entered into the State competition.

Our after-school programs are important components of the total learning experience and include Mad Science, choir, forensics, math club, and yearbook. Participation is also encouraged in extracurricular activities such as altar serving, scouting programs, school play and CYO basketball.

We always welcome our parent volunteers because it is a wonderful partnership between the school and home. Our Home and School Association offers parents an opportunity to work on various fund raisers as well as our lunch time volunteers, scout leaders, education council, technology and marketing committees.
