Succeeding Father Sylva, Who Accepts New Position at the Vatican
CLIFTON – Bishop Serratelli has announced the appointment of Father Paul Manning, pastor of St. Philip Parish, Clifton, and diocesan Vicar for Education, as the new Executive Director of St. Paul Inside the Walls: The Catholic Center for Evangelization at Bayley-Ellard, in Madison, and the new diocesan Vicar for Evangelization, effective July 1.
Father Paul Manning succeeds Father Geno Sylva, currently diocesan Vicar for Evangelization, who has been named a member of the Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization in Rome starting July 2. The bishop released Father Sylva to serve at the Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization at the request of Archbishop Salvatore Fisichella, President of the Council.
Since his first year as the Bishop of Paterson, Bishop Serratelli identified evangelization as his priority in the diocese. A key way of doing this was the establishment of St. Paul Inside the Walls – Diocesan Center for Evangelization on the campus of the former Bayley-Ellard High School. Father Sylva began the process in September 2008 to renovate the buildings, raise the additional needed funds, and established a comprehensive approach to evangelization. The Center is designed to support the mission of our parishes and schools, and also to be a place where young adults can experience the life of the Church and share the message of Jesus Christ.
