VOCATION DIRECTOR:: Rev. Thomas Fallone
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT: Ms. Maria Nunez
VOCATION AWARENESS CHAIRMAN: Sr. Jane Feltz
The Office of Vocations exists to promote, discern and direct priestly and religious vocations among men and women of the Diocese. Although a vocation begins with a personal call from God, rooted in Baptism, to serve God's people, it also involves a call from the Church, which discerns in an individual the necessary gifts for a life in Holy Orders or Religious Life.
The Office of Vocations, therefore, is the vehicle by which the local Church of Paterson, through Bishop Serratelli, invites qualified men and women to consider committed ministry in the Church, and evaluates and forms potential candidates for priesthood.
The Office of Vocations is part of the Division of Clergy and Personnel, and shares a work site with the Ministry for Priestly Formation and Education. The Director of Vocations is Rev. Thomas Fallone; he is assisted by Rev. T. Kevin Corcoran.
The Office of Vocations is responsible for:
- Promotion of Vocations: especially through its Vocation Recruitment Committee, chaired by Sr. Jane Feltz, m.p.f. and staffed by vocation ministers from the Diocese, and various religious communities, which develops and supports programs of vocation awareness and recruitment;
- Processing of Vocations: especially through its Vocation Board, chaired by the Director of Vocations, and staffed by delegates of the Diocese, which screens and evaluates candidates in their application and formation, and makes recommendations to the Bishop; and
- Ongoing Formation and Evaluation: with the cooperation of the Vocation Board, through contact and visitations to seminaries, supervision of programs of formation, arrangement of summer and pastoral placements, periodic evaluation of seminarians, and input given to the Bishop.

'Pastoral priorities' for fostering vocations outlined in plan|
Bishop
Serratelli unveiled the diocese's new Strategic Action Plan, "Stirring into
Flame: Creating a Vocation Culture in the Diocese of Paterson," March 16 at
Convocation 2006 at St. Peter the Apostle School here. The initiative identifies
ways we can respond to the plan's five "pastoral priorities" for fostering
vocations: praying, evangelizing, experiencing, mentoring and to inviting - as a
diocese, as parishes and as individuals.
