PARSIPPANY Bishop Serratelli made a pastoral visit to St. Christopher Church here on June 26 and celebrated Mass for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
The history of St. Christopher’s began when the Benedictines at Notre Dame of Mount Carmel in Cedar Knolls, developed a summer mission in the Lake Parsippany section of Parsippany. The first Masses were celebrated in the Lake Parsippany clubhouse on June 25, 1939. In 1944, a former tavern on Littleton Road was purchased and converted into a church and rectory dedicated to St. Christopher. In 1960 Bishop McNulty advanced the mission to parish status and entrusted it to diocesan clergy. A church and school were constructed in 1963.
